This Pan-European campaign challenges people’s perception of Alfa Romeo and invites them to try the car for themselves.

Alfa Romeo makes beautiful cars but they are not all about style. They come with award winning MultiAir engines, revolutionary new technologies such as ALFA TCT and D.N.A., 3 years warranty and servicing and great finance packages. The Alfa Giulietta is also the safest car in its class with a prestigious 5 star Euro NCAP rating.

The campaign is based on complete confidence and has a very clear and direct call to action – Test Me.

DCH worked with Alfa Romeo UK to adapt the Italian created TV ad and make it relevant to the UK market. If you haven’t already seen the ad, here it is…

A press campaign is also running alongside the TV with the main focus being on 0% APR and 3 years complimentary servicing. This promotes the current range (MiTo and Giulietta) and also highlights the unique Alfa D.N.A. technology and the revolutionary MultiAir engines.

Well, two recent attempts in London give us an idea of how this gap might be bridged.

Just before Christmas, eBay opened a shop in Dean Street, just a few steps away from the real shops of Oxford Street. In the eBay shop, you could browse real products in themed rooms – for kids, one with boys toys and one for the ladies. These products had a QR code label that you could scan and then buy the product online. If you did not have a smartphone to do this, plently of iPads were on hand for you to use. The shop was very nicely done out and a great place to spend time away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street. Plus eBay were actually making some sales from it there and then.

The same can‘t be said for the lastminute.com Top Secret Collection that made a temporary appearance at the Getty Images Gallery on Eastcastle Street, again just off Oxford Street. Just like the eBay shop, the place was beautifully decked out with a mocked up hotel room showcasing, as the press ad in Metro said for the event, “a luxury hotel experience, the best that lastminute.com can offer”. There was even pink cava and cupcakes. Yet no way of accessing the lastminute.com website other than on your own smartphone. It seemed most strange that they had gone to all this effort, yet when it came to the soft sell, there was nothing.

Creating a real life version of a website is a really neat way of extending the brand and building something beyond the virtual experience. But at the end of the day, it is still a website and when we go to websites that sell things, we are there to buy.

Fun in Telford at the Fiat Dealers Conference

The agency teams for Alfa Romeo and Chrysler went to an excellent Fiat Dealers conference last week in Telford.

As well as some excellent presentations, including one from 110M hurdler and latterly Strictly star Colin Jackson, one of the highlights of the day was our own Donna Coombs having a ride in the Alfa Giulietta stunt car.
Ridley Scott is back. The legend behind Alien and Blade Runner returns to the genre he helped define with Prometheus. A team discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a trip to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race. Originally the rumours had Ridley Scott working on an Alien prequel, however Prometheus is its own film, although it does appear to be set in the Alien world or he could just really dig that style.
This week I’ve mostly been listening to bands like System of a down, Korn, and Slipknot. Which lead me to discover that the lead singer of Slipknot Corey Taylor (yes they have a lead singer!) started a side project called Stone Sour. It’s not on sound cloud so please use this link to listen on Youtube.

After taking many arrows to the knee in Skyrim over the holidays I stumbled upon this little gem called Stasis which is an indie developed space adventure game! Too much awesome I know. The trailer sets a nice dark tone and clearly is influenced by Alien in style and trailer direction. It’s a WIP at the moment but one to watch and hopefully this will come out sometime in 2012.

When the sun sets, it makes your computer look like your indoor lights. In the morning, it makes things look like sunlight again. Taking the strain off of your eyes. There is also an option for disabling F.lux for an hour while you are doing “Colour sensitive work” so it will not hinder productivity.

Ok, time for some vitreous humour… Sorry, I deserve 20 lashes for that – I’ll stop now, it’s just getting Cornea and Cornea…

New Harman spot from Detroit

Lovely spot from our friends over the water, and big props (as they say) to the EVP, BL, KW (Kevin Weinman) with whom we’re working on a few Transatlantic projects.

Oh, and JLOs in it too…

Email Databases

Ok, so I appreciate this won’t be the first post everyone races to, but for those of us who work in email marketing, we’ve all come across clients who ask us about cold lists and moan that whilst they recognise the value of email their own in-house list is too small.

I’ve often talked about using the brand website to drive email acquisition, and after lots of huffing and puffing we usually get a small box somewhere near the privacy policy which says ‘sign up for email’.

I’m often left scrabbling around for examples of brands that do this properly, and I can never find any, so imagine my delight when I found a superb example this morning!

We’re doing some work for an American fast food chain and looking at some competitor eCRM programs, and I came across Bob Evans – not only is the email sign up on the homepage, but it pops up as an interstitial, it’s a properly branded program (“BEmail” no less) and there’s an incentive to sign up front and centre (center) – a BOGOF coupon.

Brilliant.

Never too old to enjoy Lego.

Out yesterday, having a great Christmas lunch with our lovely Nikon clients at St Pancras, this amazing Christmas tree caught my eye.

Yes – it is made entirely from Lego.
